What's Scaccia? It's a type of street food you'll only find near Modica and Ragusa. Scaccia is special to me and something my family has been making for years. You can only find this type of food in this region. As a child, I would tell everyone about this delicious dish and they had no idea what I was talking about. It wasn't until I got older that I realized it was a very regional dish. When my Nonna would make these for me on the farm and I always loved them. It was definitely a special treat and not something you'd find in America or mainland Italy. The only way to try and describe this dish would be to call it a type of baked calzone but it's definitely different.

Our friend Frank who is originally from Pozzallo but lives in Brooklyn introduced us to this place called Squitty. There was a party for our arrival to visit the family in Sicily and Frank ordered scaccia from here for our party.

Scaccia come with different fillings. I truly feel like it is a type of farm food. It feels like you can basically throw any leftover into dough and bake it. The best part about the scaccia is that it is very easy to eat as a street food. You'll find many local places selling these near the towns near Ragusa and Modica.

We had three different kinds of scaccia at our party. There was the onion, red tomato sauce and grated parmesan cheese, as well as the ricotta and sausage. I loved the ricotta and sausage. The white onion with the red sauce always has a nice sweetness to it. The third scaccia was unique. It was made with potato and squid. This is very special and according to Frank you can only find the squid and potato in Pozzallo. This makes sense to me because Pozzallo is located on the water, while Modica and Ragusa are land locked. In fact, four years ago Frank brought this special scaccia over from another restaurant and everyone was let down because the ratio of squid to potatoes favored the spud side heavily. We went fishing with each bite and kept getting potatoes. This year he ordered these from Squitty and they did not let the party down. This was only my second time eating this unique scaccia and I will say the second time was better. I was so happy to find a lot of squid inside. The ratio of squid to potatoes was perfect. I would definitely try these again.

Street food is always a delicious choice in Sicily. If you find yourself in Pozzallo, Sicily, then I recommend you stop in at Squitty for a bite. I don't think they will have the squid and potato to go but I could be wrong. I believe you have to special order that but they do have the other traditional scaccia to grab and go. Get crazy and try an arancini (rice ball) too. These make a fantastic snack and are also great to bring to a party.

La migliore rosticceria a Pozzallo! Da diversi anni ci serviamo quì in estate. Vasta scelta (a pranzo ci sono diversi primi e secondi, in aggiunta alla rosticceria locale) per tutti i palati, c'è anche una piccola veranda dove fermarsi a mangiare. Gli spazi sono ristretti e se vuoi avere la possibilità di scegliere fra le mille bontà, consiglio di andare presto, c'è sempre tanta fila. La soluzione perfetta per chi non ha voglia di cucinare ma vuole comunque mangiare bene senza spendere un capitale!

La miglior rosticceria di pozzallo... offre prodotti di qualità e gustosi... in estate uscendo dal mare potete andare ad acquistare un primo piatto,un secondo o una semplice insalata da portare via o da consumare ai tavolini con prezzi accessibili a tutti... la sera offre una vasta gamma di scacce (focacce) e tranci di pizza sempre freschissimi... vi consiglio di andare o all'apertura o subito dopo altrimenti la fila che troverete sarà lunghissima anche se il personale è velocissimo e condiale... consigliatissimo...

I vota vota più buoni che io abbia mai mangiato. Ho fatto anche il bis. Fanno anche pizza a taglio ed arancini. Qualità prezzo ottimi. Veranda fuori con tavoli e sedie con vista mare. Al centro del Paese è una coccola che dopo una giornata di mare non dovete perdere assolutamente. Personale educato, sorridente e disponibile alle mille richieste. Molto soddisfatta, ci torneró volentieri.

Eccellente il cibo e la cortesia del personale. Abbiamo mangiato da ristorante a 5 stelle ed abbiamo pagato pochissimo.

Number One, voto 10 e lode e bacio in fronte. Le addette al servizio lavorano senza sosta, sono estremamente gentili, io al solo guardarle mi sono stancata, complimenti a queste bellissime ragazze. I rustici sono strafavolosi, una goduria per il palato. Soprattutto le focacce al prsce, mi insegnate a farle????. Prezzi super convenienti per una qualità supereccellente. Continuate così e un occhio di riguardo per queste ragazze che sono la fortuna di questo locale

Con la mia famiglia ci siamo soffermati a mangiare, ma siamo rimasti molto delusi e affamati. Abbiamo preso un arancino che sembrava essere fatto con riso integrale, due panzerotti/calzoni con all'interno prosciutto e sugo l'insieme era acidissimo. Speriamo di non stare male con lo stomaco.
