ingredients and is accompanied with the icon of a plate from the Michelin Guide handbook and Michelin website, 4) then there is what Michelin calls the Bib Gourmand, which Michelin awards to restaurants to have good food for the value of it’s cost, it’s icon is the Michelin mans face 3) Michelin now starts the star ratings starting with 1 star which means, a very good restaurant, 2) Michelin’s 2 stars indicate a place worth a detour, and 1) Michelin’s 3 star rating, the best of the best, means exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey. Da Vincenzo after looking on the Michelin Guide website, has a Michelin Plate rating.
The location is beautiful. My husband and I had the outdoor patio seating closer to the door so you actually can see across the street to view the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. Our waiter was nice but you could tell, this is a job to him and not a passion to serve. Con: they do not have their menu on their website for dining guests to see in advance. Since they offered so many pasta dishes because they mostly make the pasta in-house, I decided to try their tubettini pasta with mussels in a wine/butter sauce. When it arrived, the tubettii was massive in size, not tiny like I’m used to, there were no mussel shells, the mussel meat is loose in the bowl and then the wine/butter sauce below. It was completely over salted. The server never went out of his way to explain what this dish was and how it would be presented so of course I was disappointed. I found from the waiter at Buca di Bacco (their servers are outstanding and informative!) that there are different sizes to each type of pasta and it’s based on a number system. So what I think happened, the server at Da Vincenzo didn’t tell me that their Tubettini is a larger number size than what Americans are used to. We are used to size 42-62 sized. I then proceeded to order their ‘local fish’ dish which is called Umbrina. Fish is light like Cod and had a massive thick coating of crust on the outside which I liked but it also was accompanied by endives and olives. The endives are steamed and sautéed....not fresh and crisp so the texture was a surprise. Bottom line, make those waiters work for your money and ask very specific questions about how each dish is prepared and what to expect it to look like because they will not go out of their way to explain this to you, which is iron since they don’t put their menu online, this leaves guests up to them to be the bold ones to ask.
Side note: I will say that since you are eating in Positano where it would virtually be a sin to dine indoors and not eat Al Fresco, this is probably the only restaurant I wouldn’t mind eating indoors. The interior design is amazing and unique.
Last Side Note: A great place to get a souvenir is their own gift shop right next to the restaurant. The aprons are for sale that the waitstaff also wears so you know its good quality and made of good material.
I really enjoyed and definitely will come back if i get to visit Positano again.
