My family and I did the Complete Early Morning Vatican Tour with Breakfast in the Office and it was fantastic! The best tour we took in Italy!

Our guide, Matteo, was extremely knowledgeable and very outgoing. He explained hundreds of interesting facts about the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and Square, and the Sistine Chapel and answered all of our questions. The tour was very long (3 1/2 hours) but well worth every minute.

This is a tour not to be missed while you’re in Rome. We enjoyed it so much we are planning to get it as a gift for our daughter who is studying in Rome this Spring. Wonderful!

Did the early access Vatican tour on 10 Nov with Ana...our group of 8 was the perfect size for the adventure. What a Life tours came recommended from a friend and I will happily pass the recommendation along.

Ana. Wow do we think we lucked out with her! She was knowledgable, personable, with good humor and really the perfect personality. All in all, she really made this one of the best tours possible!

We booked the colosseum night tour at the recommendation of a friend, but we’re rained out due to days of rain beforehand... HOWEVER, the tour company proactively reached out to us when it looked like a weather cancellation might happen and upgraded us to a longer, more expensive tour the next morning (at no additional charge). The tour itself was a great way to experience these sights and avoiding the long lines was worth it.

We went on the Afternoon Vatican Tour with Beatrice and were extremely satisfied. She was very knowledgable and made our trip much more enjoyable. We were taken care of from the moment we arrived in their office, and the small group made the experience more personal. Highly recommended!

Booked an early access tour at the Vatican and had a great time. My wife and I don't usually do a lot of tours but we were glad we did this time. Our guide Ana was great, and made some strategic decisions to allow us to see everything while avoiding the crowds (as much as possible).

I had been to the Colosseum before, but had never seen it from the 4th and 5th tiers. A special gate was opened for our group, and we were suddenly away from the crowd to take in the incredible views. The guide, Giuliano, was awesome and he did a great job of brining the Colosseum and Forum to life. Highly recommend!

The Vatican is a huge and overwhelming place with tons to see and large crowds. We chose to do a group tour with 8 of us with Grant last Saturday and couldn't have been happier. We were so impressed with Grants knowledge and humor, he really made this tour a good time. Pointed out everything we needed to see with great bits of history and guided our group in and out of the massive seas of people. He was funny, knowledgeable and super personable. I would highly recommend taking this tour as you avoid the long lines but even more so would recommend requesting Grant as your guide. The evening after our tour while exploring Rome we ran into another couple from our tour at dinner, they had same opinion as us and could not get over how great of a guide Grant is. We really appreciated him and this tour was one of our main highlights of Rome!

End if our final day in Rome. Our last day of tours with what a life. We started with crypts and catacombs with our guide Carlotta. Meeting point easy to find and Carlotta met us and we had our semi private tour. Excellent sights the crypts were so interesting and a real talking point..the catacombs were incredible although we were now in the hands of a guide provided by the vatican who although competent did not have the enthusiasm and passion of Carlotta. We moved to St Clements which was the real highlight for me bought to life by Carlotta whose knowledge was amazing. A great start to our Rome Break. Onto the Colossium again easy meet and welcomed by Joseph. Sante was our guide an absolutely fantastic orator whose knowledge passion and enthusiasm for Rome and the history of the Colossium and forum area was a joy to share. The tour was brilliant seeing the underground area a highlight. Finally today the early access tour of the sistine..museums and St Peters. We met at the company offices and had coffee and croissants very well organised and a great start. Paulo our guide was a walking encyclopedia with a brilliant delivery. He explained everything so well and knew so much absolytely amazing tour. Thank you What alife tours you made our time in Rome. I cant praise you all highly enough.

We went on two tours with this company and both were fantastic. The first, with Federica to the Vatican was a private tour. She was with us for three hours and did an incredible job. Our boys (5 and 8) were entertained and we all learned so much. She was knowledgeable and friendly. Our second tour was a small group with Marti around the Colosseum. There was not a question she could not answer and kept the children engaged. We have done a few tours around Italy and these were by far the best!

Desde niño esperando para ver El Laoconte y tengo la enorme suerte de verlo acompañado de Alicia. Una guia magnífica y una gran persona. Ver El Vaticano disfrutando de sus conocimientos ha sido un placer. Repetiré sin duda. Muchas gracias.

We did the morning Vatican tour, and everything went according to plan with our tour. Our guide was great making the tour enjoyable and efficient. He was able to show us some highlights before the Vatican got more crowded. We had kids ages 9 and 12, and it was the perfect amount of time for them. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Felicidades.

We are SO glad we took the early morning Vatican tour with Mario. The lines on Jan 2 were long for everyone else at the Vatican except groups like ours - making this a GREAT value! We only waited for 30 minutes outside the entrance with other tour groups but used that time well as Mario gave us a fabulous overview of the Vatican and Sistine chapel. We felt like we had the museum, Sistine chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica all to ourselves once the museum doors opened for early entrance. Mario’s style, information, and ability to tell the stories of the Vatican made this a fabulous morning. He is able to tailor the tour to anyone’s interests and has such a great perspective on these amazing treasures. We were able to spend 20 minutes just enjoying the Sistine chapel and never felt rushed. He also pointed out the short bathroom lines and advice for different ways to continue to explore the Vatican after our tour ended. I had tried to get tickets to the Vatican myself online, but the Vatican website would not accept my American credit card - I’m so glad I had this “problem” because it led me to What a Life Tours. I liked that this tour agency is right next to the Vatican and how easy they were to work with. Before our trip, I thought this seemed like a lot of money to spend to see the Vatican, but we are so very glad that we invested this money in such a memorable experience!

Elaine was very knowledgeable and so entertaining! She made what was a VERY busy day manageable and stress free and still managed to show us some incredible hidden gems in the Vatican. She was so much fun and truly knows her stuff! It certainly helps that she loves her job. I would love to have the opportunity to tour with her again in the future. Thank you so much for making our visit to the Vatican so special Elaine :)

Our first tour was with Carlotta and we toured the Colosseum. Amazing tour, amazing tour guide. Carlotta is a pure professional with a wealth of knowledge regarding anything Roman. We spent over 3 hours listening, walking, learning about ancient Roman civilization. To some this may sound boring but believe me if you want a clear picture with "backstage passes" to the busiest most popular sites this tour company is who to call.
The next day we toured the Vatican and St Peters....we were fortunate enough to have Carlotta as our guide again. I can barely comprehend what I saw and learned that day.....absolutely amazing.
We booked these two tours as we were only there for 5 days. We all fell in love with the city of Rome and will return next year for more tours with your company. Outstanding 5 star rating for What a Life Tours and Carlotta.

My family and I had a wonderful time in Rome made more special by the tours we took with What a Life tours.

Every aspect of the tour from booking to payment to the actual tour was handled professionally and efficiently.

Anna took us on the early Vatican tour and gave us a good understanding of the Vatican and the key highlights. She was so passionate and very knowledgeable, sharing what she knew with us generously. My two teenage girls who are not fans of musuems were infected by her passion and enjoyed themselves tremendously in the end.

Carlotta brought us around the Coloessum and Palatine Hill. So detailed were her explanations and her knowledge of the background behind the historical remnants we saw, it was a history lesson come alive for us. We were fortunate that we were the only ones in the group and could fire our questions at Carlotta without restraint for which she patiently answered.

Overall both wonderful tours. Wonderful company with awesome native guides. Worth every cent. I will definitely come back to Rome and see it through the eyes of the great guides from What a Life again and will highly recommend your services to my friends.

Grazie for a job well done.

Carlotta was fantastic! Her knowledge added the story behind what we were seeing, so much more than we were expecting.
Her passion for the topics and history really shown through and made the 3 hours magic and memorable.
One other thing that was a huge help; Carlotta had a good read on us and where we wanted to focus our limited time, so the personal tour was well worth it to us and set us up for the rest of the day at the Vatican.
A Superstar in every way!

What a Life Tours is an exceptionally professional tour company that provided a memorable tour of the Vatican museums and St. Peter's Bassilica I will not forget. Their tour-guide, Matteo was experienced, informative and very personal with our small group of 7. A wealth of knowledge was shared by Matteo and he paced the tour perfectly for our group in a strategic and comfortable manner. I highly recommend What a Life Tours for any tour they have to offer. You will not regret it.

The tour was incredible, large in part due to Ana’s ability to break down a tremendous amount of information into the most easily understandable and engaging way. She helped us understand the work and the meaning beyond the aesthetic beauty of each piece in the museum and in the entire Vatican. Ana was also very animated, which kept our attention, especially first thing in the morning. Great tour and great guide! We will recommend to everyone we know. Thank you!

We are so thankful for this tour. It made our Vatican experience more than we ever imagined. It started off with coffee and a croissant and then just kept getting better. We recently use this service for two tours in Italy one for the Vatican which was led by colette She was a wealth of information could have spent a week with her at the Vatican. Her study is archaeology which tied in nicely. I will return again and hope I get lucky enough to have her as our tour guide.

Wow- what a great experience! We took two tours: first was the underground coliseum with Vincent as our guide. Thanks to him transporting us back in time I walked out feeling like I knew more about not just the coliseum but about all of Rome- I felt like a historian! When we left we talked all night about our experience and didn’t think any tour could top Vincent’s amazingly entertaining persona.
The next morning we were up early for the opening tour of the Vatican. Tired and dragging we joined Mario our tour guide for our trek through the Vatican. In the first few minutes we knew this was going to be just as great! Mario had us laughing so hard with his stories associated to the Vatican it allowed us to see the Vatican as real people. He related today to some of the most significant historical relics for everyone to understand the art and statues throughout and their significance in Roman times. His perspective and humor was refreshing! We won’t book anything else but what a life tours after such a great experience!!

Of all the tours that my spouse and I have been to, Elaine is one of the best guides we ever had! She was very knowledgeable and engaging. After the tour our minds were enriched and we had a much better understanding of the area.

This was simply fantastic. Getting in ahead of the crowds certainly made a big difference but the key to the experience was our fantastic guide, Matteo. His passion for and knowledge of the art, the artists and the history behind them is utterly contagious. Amid such a vast collection of timeless works, his ability to give the viewer a meaningful context and his eye for the illuminating detail was like an instant art history lesson. Nothing short of inspiring.

Very enjoyable tour of Rome including The Forum, Palantine Hill and Coliseum . We participated in the underground tour of the coliseum with stage access.

We’ve just done a 3 hour tour of Palantine Hill, Roman Forum and the Colosseum Floor with Carlotta from What a Life Tours. Fantastic tour with an experienced, knowledgeable & vibrant guide who kept everyone engaged & was mindful of the needs of our group. It was a relatively small group so we got a lot out of it & a real understanding of that part of Roman history. Excellent & highly recommended.

We had the most amazing tour with Matteo on 12/9/19. It was a very busy day and the 3 hour tour lasted nearly 5 hours but this went by so quickly as Matteo made every detail so interesting and fascinating. We found the tour incredibly fascinating and emotional. Matteo involved all the group and for people like us with no knowledge of art brought sculptures and pictures alive. This quite simply is the best tour experience EVER! We cannot praise this man and company enough. Well worth the cost. From the moment you are greeted by the team in the office to your guide leaving you at the end of the day you feel welcomed and involved.

Our family took the Colosseum Under the Moon tour with Luca on our first night in Rome. First, it was a great way to force ourselves into the timezone. Second, it was the perfect way to start our trip to Italy! To see the Colosseum is amazing but to see it for the first time at night, it is BREATH TAKING!! Our guide, Luca, was funny, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk and stops along the way as we traveled to the Colosseum. The tour of the Colosseum itself was a wonderful experience. Being able to walk where the Gladiators once did was a gift my family and I will forever treasure. Thank you for an amazing start to my families "Trip of a Lifetime".

Would just like to say a huge thank you to Daniela for our tour as she gave us such a great insight into Rome on our first night in this wonderful city. We were lucky enough to have a personal tour of only three people which allowed us to ask as many questions as we liked and find out so much in depth knowledge from her. Daniela made the perfect start to our holiday and could not recommend enough. Thanks so much!

Our guide Matteo was spectacular. I have to admit the Vatican was lower on my list of must see's. Matteo however brought the history alive for me. It will take to long to explain how he did this but rest assured, if you can get a tour with him do it. It may even change your life and that's not an exaggeration. By far the most memorable moment in 25 days and 7 countries on our trip.  Thank you Matteo

We did a 3.5 hour Vatican tour with early entry to Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St.Peter's in April. This was the highlight of our trip. We were greeted with a warm welcome and friendly smiles and had a lovely continental breakfast, which consisted of croissants, pastries ,and a variety of hot and cold beverages. I would highly recommend this tour with What a Life Tours.

What a tour and what a guide!! We took the early tour to the Vatican including the Sixteenth Chapel. Our guide Giuliano was very friendly and good. He knew when to pauze and when to move and made sure we passed slow groups. We had a lot of space and empty hallways in more than One occasion. The early tour is all worth it. It’s a difference of thousands of people. The organisation is very trustworthy and Giuliano knows a lot, speaks English very well and is very nice. Next visit to Rome I will book with this company again.

We just got back from our tour with Anna through the Vatican and we are, simply put, still in awe. Anna made our experience so wonderful and one that we will never forget. I have been to the Vatican before but I can now say that I had an experience that brought the art, the history, and the people within the walls of the Vatican alive. Anna was personable, knowledgeable, honest, and incredibly thoughtful and made our trip truly a once in a lifetime experience. We would recommend this and Anna to anyone looking for an unforgettable day.

We booked the 7:20am Early Access Vatican City tour (3.5hrs) with What a Life Tours to avoid the crowds and it did not disappoint. Yes, it’s really early but its to get in before the general public access opens up to everyone. They provide a light breakfast at the office so if you get there even a few minutes early you could grab a coffee and a croissant. They also have bottles of water for you to bring.

For the tour, they provide you a pamphlet with pictures of Michelangelo’s artwork in St. Peter’s Basilica as well as an audio device for you to wear throughout the tour to hear the guide. This device is pretty spotty though because all the tour companies use the same device so I’d recommend walking close to your guide and listen in real time when you can.

Our tour guide was Matteo. He, along with an assistant, guided us through the major parts of the Vatican City. He began explaining the history and each art work on the pamphlet while we were waiting in line for the doors to open. This was helpful so we already had context before actually entering the basilica (no talking allowed inside). Once the doors opened, we didn’t wait much (just went through security, scanned our tickets and we were in!).

We started with the Greek Museum, then the Roman Museum, into the hall of drape paintings, hall of maps, saw some of Raphael’s art work and then got about 15 minutes inside the Sistine Chapel (no talking, no pictures/videos). It was really crowded inside and you had to be like a hawk to get a seat along the walls. Afterwards, we took a quick break before entering (at last) St Peter’s Basilica! It was as grand as they say :) Matteo provided a lot of insightful history that we enjoyed hearing about throughout the tour. Only wished we could hear him more clearly at all times throughout the tour (not his fault, but the audio device).

3.5 hours was a great amount of time to see the main attractions. I didn’t feel too rushed, just had to get around all the other tourists who were also there — it got super crowded FAST. After the tour group disbanded, we walked around to explore on our own and then went to grab lunch.

We have done 3 tours with them here in Rome: The Vatican, The Colosseum & their new Walking Food Tour. Each was great in it’s own way. The guides are so knowledgeable and friendly. The groups are small which just makes the tour fantastic. We highly recommend. And if you have the night free, try the food your, you won’t be disappointed!

I highly recommend What a Life Tours. I did a tour with them while traveling with my mother in Rome. The guides were friendly and had an excellent knowledge base. They were very informative and were able to answer any questions I had. The groups were not too big, with only about 4 or 5 other couples per tour, which was important to me. Booking was easy and the tour prices were very competitive. I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone visiting Rome!

A group of friends and I took a tour of the Vatican on May 20, 2017 with Grant as our guide. All six of us agreed he was the best tour guide any of us had ever had. We hung on his every word. He was extremely knowledgeable, interesting, funny and we were completely mesmerized by him. Never enjoyed a tour more than this one. The Vatican/Sistine Chapel/St. Peter's Basilica are fabulous on their own, but Grant made our tour of them that much more special. We highly recommend him! Thank you What a Life Tours for having him as one of your guides!

We could not have been more impressed with the guide work of Carlotta. She is sensitive, ethical and the information she shares is known at the heart level. You will not forget Vatican City or this genuine, dedicated person who knows the details of the great art of the Vatican.

Had a group of 6 with the worst guide of this entire Italy trip. The guide, Federica, just went through the entire tour of the Vatican City with a super brief touch-and-go attitude while you can see other guides from other tours were stopping in front of artefacts/ art pieces, explaining the histories and stories of each pieces.

I came out of this tour not knowing when the Balisca of St Peter nor Sistine Church were built. The explanation on history of the Vatican City ended in 1 sentence - she only told us the independence year of this country.

This is an total disappointment to have booked this tour with What a Life Tours, wasting the euros and our time in Rome.

It could be just this particular guide that has wasted our time and money, but the disappointment is also towards the tour agency which did not set the criteria and standard for the guide.

Anna, leading our group of 8 through the SIstine Chapel and the Vatican Museum on Friday, 10 March earned a rating of 5+ stars. Full of information, energy, leadership, and charm, she engaged us with the art and the stories that made the art relevant to all of us. A comment on her so skillful guidance through the back passages as well as the galleries would be incomplete if it didn't note her very apparent love and deep knowledge of the life and work of Michelangelo.

I get the impression that there are several great tour companies operating in Rome. I also get the impression that there are also many mediocre tour companies, and a few really bad tour companies operating in the Eternal city.

So while my goal was to simply book a ‘skip the line’ tour to ensure I made the most of my limited time in Rome, I still wanted to ensure I was getting the best value for my money.

Thankfully all my research paid off, and I can confidently say that you can believe the hype and positive reviews about ‘What A Life Tours’. This is truly a five star company and I can confidently
recommend booking a tour. I would also book another tour with ‘What A Life Tours’ without hesitation.

Furthermore, I now have a greater appreciation for professional tour guides and professional guided tours.

While in Rome my wife and I booked two tours.

The ‘Vatican Early Morning Tour’ was fantastic in no small part because of our excellent guide Federica. Frederica was extremely knowledgeable, patient, humorous, and an all-around really fun person to spend several hours with. Including my wife and me, there was also a family of four on this tour for a total of 6 guests. We all agreed that the tour was excellent value.

A few days later we attended a ‘Colosseum Morning Tour’, and while waiting for a tour guide my wife and I both wished our guide would be Federica again, since she had already set the bar very high. Turns out there was no need to worry since our Colosseum tour guide Antonietta was in every way just as excellent as Federica. As a bonus this tour only had one other guest besides my wife and me so we had plenty of one-on-one with Antonietta. This tour also exceeded our expectations.

And if I haven’t already gushed enough about this company, ‘What A Life Tours’ was also able to change the dates of our tours at the very last minute when our flights from Canada were delayed for 48hrs!
Many thanks to Joseph, Federica, and Antonietta and all the staff at ‘What A Life Tours’ for being a large part of our wonderful trip to Rome!

Additional Comments
==================
** - One aspect I never accounted for was that these tours were a great way to spend several hours with a local Roman. I found that I was just as interested in asking our guides about their lives in Europe as I was about the amazing ruins and artwork.

**- Both of our tours were early morning tours. While it wasn’t easy getting up so early on vacation being jetlagged etc… I found that waking up early and walking the streets of Rome to the meetup gave of us glimpse of the City we probably wouldn’t have witnessed otherwise. Some of my favorite photos from our trip are from those early morning walks.

**- Both our tours ended around noon. This left us with what seemed like the entire day to continue our exploration of the city.

**- While both tours are early morning and skip the line tours, it is important to remember there are many companies also running early morning and skip the line tours. So while we didn’t have the Sistine chapel all to ourselves, we were able to appreciate it with only about 30-40 other people. Meanwhile there were times during our tours when it felt like we had large areas of the Vatican museum or the Roman Forum all to ourselves.

We had a wonderful time. Patrick gave our tour. We had a small group (7 people) and plenty of instruction and attention. Would recommend to anyone seeking an in depth look at the Vatican.

My mom and I were in town for 3 days. We didn't want to spend one of them just waiting in line to see the sistine chapel but we also didn't want to spend a fortune to book a tour.We were approached by several people on the street and were apprehensive. By chance we decided to go with the "blue" tour company. Annette from Norway led us to the office and was super friendly. In fact all of the employees were friendly and smiley.
Our guide was Angelo and it seems like we hit the jackpot! He was entertaining and direct and has such a vast knowledge of the history of the artists and their work. We visited the highlights had direct access to the Basilica following the tour. It was overall a fun and learning experience! It felt like we were walking around with a rockstar the way he waved to and was greeted by all the locals and vatican staff. It was worth the 46€ each to be in a small group and have so much information. Thank you for a great day and the wonderful vatican experience. Highly recommend this tour!

Definitely worth it! A friend and I took a tour of of the Vatican on a very busy day. Our tour guide Grant was friendly, humorous, and very easy to understand. With a tour you can skip the crazy long lines to each attraction and this company in particular is really great about making sure you know what is open that day and where they will be taking you. Even as a frugal student I found it extremely worth it to get a ticket with this group. They tell you SO much information and history, which makes you appreciate everything much more.
