Our guide, Matteo, was extremely knowledgeable and very outgoing. He explained hundreds of interesting facts about the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and Square, and the Sistine Chapel and answered all of our questions. The tour was very long (3 1/2 hours) but well worth every minute.
This is a tour not to be missed while you’re in Rome. We enjoyed it so much we are planning to get it as a gift for our daughter who is studying in Rome this Spring. Wonderful!
Ana. Wow do we think we lucked out with her! She was knowledgable, personable, with good humor and really the perfect personality. All in all, she really made this one of the best tours possible!
Saludos desde Málaga.
Felicidades.
Carlotta is very funny and personable who made our experience such a enjoyable tour.
Thank you Carlotta for such a great day and memorable experience.
The next day we toured the Vatican and St Peters....we were fortunate enough to have Carlotta as our guide again. I can barely comprehend what I saw and learned that day.....absolutely amazing.
We booked these two tours as we were only there for 5 days. We all fell in love with the city of Rome and will return next year for more tours with your company. Outstanding 5 star rating for What a Life Tours and Carlotta.

Every aspect of the tour from booking to payment to the actual tour was handled professionally and efficiently.
Anna took us on the early Vatican tour and gave us a good understanding of the Vatican and the key highlights. She was so passionate and very knowledgeable, sharing what she knew with us generously. My two teenage girls who are not fans of musuems were infected by her passion and enjoyed themselves tremendously in the end.
Carlotta brought us around the Coloessum and Palatine Hill. So detailed were her explanations and her knowledge of the background behind the historical remnants we saw, it was a history lesson come alive for us. We were fortunate that we were the only ones in the group and could fire our questions at Carlotta without restraint for which she patiently answered.
Overall both wonderful tours. Wonderful company with awesome native guides. Worth every cent. I will definitely come back to Rome and see it through the eyes of the great guides from What a Life again and will highly recommend your services to my friends.
Grazie for a job well done.
Her passion for the topics and history really shown through and made the 3 hours magic and memorable.
One other thing that was a huge help; Carlotta had a good read on us and where we wanted to focus our limited time, so the personal tour was well worth it to us and set us up for the rest of the day at the Vatican.
A Superstar in every way!
Best Regards
The next morning we were up early for the opening tour of the Vatican. Tired and dragging we joined Mario our tour guide for our trek through the Vatican. In the first few minutes we knew this was going to be just as great! Mario had us laughing so hard with his stories associated to the Vatican it allowed us to see the Vatican as real people. He related today to some of the most significant historical relics for everyone to understand the art and statues throughout and their significance in Roman times. His perspective and humor was refreshing! We won’t book anything else but what a life tours after such a great experience!!
Please send our thanks to Ms Elaine!
We will rely on What A Life Tours for future tours & refer friends traveling to Roma to WALT.
Martina was our guide. She was knowledgeable, funny, entertaining, patient and to say we learned a lot from her is an understatement. Would highly recommend.

Excellent tour. Ask for Mario. The tour was well-timed, giving more than adequate time to the Sistine Chapel and Basilica.
For the tour, they provide you a pamphlet with pictures of Michelangelo’s artwork in St. Peter’s Basilica as well as an audio device for you to wear throughout the tour to hear the guide. This device is pretty spotty though because all the tour companies use the same device so I’d recommend walking close to your guide and listen in real time when you can.
Our tour guide was Matteo. He, along with an assistant, guided us through the major parts of the Vatican City. He began explaining the history and each art work on the pamphlet while we were waiting in line for the doors to open. This was helpful so we already had context before actually entering the basilica (no talking allowed inside). Once the doors opened, we didn’t wait much (just went through security, scanned our tickets and we were in!).
We started with the Greek Museum, then the Roman Museum, into the hall of drape paintings, hall of maps, saw some of Raphael’s art work and then got about 15 minutes inside the Sistine Chapel (no talking, no pictures/videos). It was really crowded inside and you had to be like a hawk to get a seat along the walls. Afterwards, we took a quick break before entering (at last) St Peter’s Basilica! It was as grand as they say :) Matteo provided a lot of insightful history that we enjoyed hearing about throughout the tour. Only wished we could hear him more clearly at all times throughout the tour (not his fault, but the audio device).
3.5 hours was a great amount of time to see the main attractions. I didn’t feel too rushed, just had to get around all the other tourists who were also there — it got super crowded FAST. After the tour group disbanded, we walked around to explore on our own and then went to grab lunch.
I came out of this tour not knowing when the Balisca of St Peter nor Sistine Church were built. The explanation on history of the Vatican City ended in 1 sentence - she only told us the independence year of this country.
This is an total disappointment to have booked this tour with What a Life Tours, wasting the euros and our time in Rome.
It could be just this particular guide that has wasted our time and money, but the disappointment is also towards the tour agency which did not set the criteria and standard for the guide.
So while my goal was to simply book a ‘skip the line’ tour to ensure I made the most of my limited time in Rome, I still wanted to ensure I was getting the best value for my money.
Thankfully all my research paid off, and I can confidently say that you can believe the hype and positive reviews about ‘What A Life Tours’. This is truly a five star company and I can confidently
recommend booking a tour. I would also book another tour with ‘What A Life Tours’ without hesitation.
Furthermore, I now have a greater appreciation for professional tour guides and professional guided tours.
While in Rome my wife and I booked two tours.
The ‘Vatican Early Morning Tour’ was fantastic in no small part because of our excellent guide Federica. Frederica was extremely knowledgeable, patient, humorous, and an all-around really fun person to spend several hours with. Including my wife and me, there was also a family of four on this tour for a total of 6 guests. We all agreed that the tour was excellent value.
A few days later we attended a ‘Colosseum Morning Tour’, and while waiting for a tour guide my wife and I both wished our guide would be Federica again, since she had already set the bar very high. Turns out there was no need to worry since our Colosseum tour guide Antonietta was in every way just as excellent as Federica. As a bonus this tour only had one other guest besides my wife and me so we had plenty of one-on-one with Antonietta. This tour also exceeded our expectations.
And if I haven’t already gushed enough about this company, ‘What A Life Tours’ was also able to change the dates of our tours at the very last minute when our flights from Canada were delayed for 48hrs!
Many thanks to Joseph, Federica, and Antonietta and all the staff at ‘What A Life Tours’ for being a large part of our wonderful trip to Rome!

** - One aspect I never accounted for was that these tours were a great way to spend several hours with a local Roman. I found that I was just as interested in asking our guides about their lives in Europe as I was about the amazing ruins and artwork.
**- Both of our tours were early morning tours. While it wasn’t easy getting up so early on vacation being jetlagged etc… I found that waking up early and walking the streets of Rome to the meetup gave of us glimpse of the City we probably wouldn’t have witnessed otherwise. Some of my favorite photos from our trip are from those early morning walks.
**- Both our tours ended around noon. This left us with what seemed like the entire day to continue our exploration of the city.
**- While both tours are early morning and skip the line tours, it is important to remember there are many companies also running early morning and skip the line tours. So while we didn’t have the Sistine chapel all to ourselves, we were able to appreciate it with only about 30-40 other people. Meanwhile there were times during our tours when it felt like we had large areas of the Vatican museum or the Roman Forum all to ourselves.
Very knowledgeable guide and the staff very friendly and nicely and our tour was just the way the promoter described.. thank you so much guys !! see ya next time!!!
Our guide was Angelo and it seems like we hit the jackpot! He was entertaining and direct and has such a vast knowledge of the history of the artists and their work. We visited the highlights had direct access to the Basilica following the tour. It was overall a fun and learning experience! It felt like we were walking around with a rockstar the way he waved to and was greeted by all the locals and vatican staff. It was worth the 46€ each to be in a small group and have so much information. Thank you for a great day and the wonderful vatican experience. Highly recommend this tour!
